Seth’s Story

Friends and Families,

As most of you know, Seth has been battling (like a warrior) brain cancer for four years now and this past month the doctors informed the family that there is really little else they can do, giving Seth maybe a year or so…….

This tragic news has been, of course, incomprehensible and devastating.

Stephanie is taking a leave of absence from work for now to spend time at home with Seth and the boys.  So we all know that means it is time for the community to wrap big arms around this super sweet family!

Immediate needs are to raise funds so that Seth and Stephanie and the boys can continue to stay in their house and maintain their new normal and try to take away some of their stresses.    Help is needed to pay the mortgage, insurance, utilities, groceries, etc…

A bank account has been opened at Umpqua Bank. Money can be deposited to: The Seth Raleigh Medical Donation account, ending in 0858. Follow this link to also get information on how to use Venmo to contribute.

A GoFundMe Account has been set up as well for those who do not have an Umpqua Bank locally.

A meal train has been set up here!  Please read the requests for meals, even though we all love a good Lasagna, 10 in the freezer can be a bit much…

Helping Seth and Stephanie with some home projects is also needed.  Information to come soon.

Here are some other suggestions of how to help:

Donate money to the accounts listed above!  This is the biggest need and the most stressful item of all!  We want to maintain normalcy as best can be!

Use the meal train site to provide meals!  If you are not able to cook and want to donate a gift card, that is appreciated as well.  Favorites are Block 15, American Dream, Le Caves, Cascade BBQ, Tacovino, Tacovore, Bellhop, Burgerville

When you see Stephanie, Seth, Claudia and Dave, Nate and Claire, and Bobby, know they are battling the  biggest battle a family can deal with and any day can be fine or not so fine.  Let them know that you’re willing to listen — and never underestimate the value of your presence. Even if it feels as if you’re not doing anything, your presence sends an important message. Don’t, however, try to replace a trained counselor.  Today they may not want to talk about them, they want to hear about you, they want to hear things that is going to bring them a small slice of joy.

They also may just want to get in a work out or a walk and not have to talk and just be “away” for the moment. Please also be sensitive about conversations near the boys, Sawyer and Finn pick up on quiet conversations above them, they already sense the stress, they don’t need to hear about fears and concerns from others.

Some coaching tips for the boys:  When around them treat them as normal. Have normal interactions as you would with young kids, they need normalcy!

Finally, yes, many of us want to pamper Stephanie with pedicures, coffee cards, etc. and no one is stopping you.  However, really what she prefers is help with finances so she can not worry about that, and help with meals and projects. Additionally if possible she would love to be able to hire someone to maintain her yard.

Thank you everyone for loving this family, and for being  such a caring community. This is hard, as Seth’s says, this sucks!  To be able to help others, we have to take care of ourselves first.  If you are struggling to the point where you feel you need help, there are some great grief counselors at our local Lumina Hospice Center.

If you have questions or want to offer something we didn’t mention, please use the email below. A team of people will manage this email and make sure all of your questions are answered and we will pass on messages of love to the Raleighs. We are trying to allow The Raleigh Family as much together without having to also manage a lot of questions. We all appreciate all your help and support.
